unu, the Berlin scooter maker, filed for insolvency in November 2023; Emco took over the brand and service in April 2024. LibreScoot is replacement firmware written by a volunteer community, mostly in Berlin, for the scooter’s i.MX6 computer.
It adds offline maps with turn-by-turn navigation, updates over Bluetooth from a phone, a new dashboard, a motion alarm and scheduled hibernation, with no SIM card needed. The desktop installer takes about 20 minutes.
