manuaguirre9 built a homebrew player that boots alongside Sony’s firmware: drag-and-drop music, 24-bit FLAC, Bluetooth headphones, podcasts over phone tethering and retro emulators. Deleting one folder restores the stock Walkman.
- ai
- The creator says Claude wrote most of the code. It builds on Rockbox nwztools and Sony's GPL source.
- caveats
- Experimental, tested on one Japanese NW-A829. International NWZ models are untested and the installer can't reach them yet. Installer is Windows only. Charge the battery first; you do this at your own risk.
- evidence
- Public project + creator account.
