The stereo came with ads, a paywalled always-listening assistant, a firmware updater on a third-party cloud and a root backdoor. Claude Code backed it all up, removed 18 apps, closed the backdoors and put on an open-source launcher and apps. CarPlay, Android Auto, radio and the reversing camera still work.
